Melanie Cormack-Hicks

Being present is the most important part of Melanie’s process. It allows her to feel the landscape and translate that feeling into paint. All of her paintings are inspired by working in the landscape, sketches are made on location, plein air paintings are produced and many hours are spent just observing, not only what she sees, but also how she feels.

Every painting has its own narrative, but it does not aim to tell you a story. Instead, Melanie relishes the idea that you will find your own.

“My first artistic memory is getting praised in infant school for my short story. However, it was not the story everyone liked but my illustration of a blue bird sitting in a tree. I always loved art, but was never convinced I was any good at it. That's what led me into teaching. I was on a mission to prove that everyone can enjoy art, its not about ability, its all about creativity. So with a Fine Art Painting Degree from Cheltenham under my belt that's what I did for 20 wonderful years.’

Melanie exhibits art work internationally at Affordable Art Fair Singapore and AAF Hong Kong. In addition to this London's AAF Hampstead and Battersea. As well as at the Fresh Art Fair's in Ascot and Cheltenham.

Since turning professional Melanie has had a solo exhibition in Cheltenham, she was selected to exhibit at Saatchi’s The Other Art Fair, was awarded Artist in Residence at WWT Slimbridge and runs her own 3-day painting workshops in her beloved Cotswold landscape.
